I traveled to Genoa, Italy for a total of 7 weeks in summer 2011. After taking only 2 courses of beginning Italian, I joined the full immersion program, and took a pledge to only speak Italian during the 6 weeks of courses. It was incredibly challenging yet enriching, and I know I garnered the full experience of being in such an amazing country by agreeing to this challenge.
My last week in Italy was spent traveling to Verona, Venice, and Milan with my roommates. I loved being able to explore on our own, especially after having grasped the language; I was even told by natives that I spoke very well.
Photo Blog in Italian
We were asked to keep a blog to document our experiences (in addition to a written diary) as part of the study abroad program. It includes my personally taken pictures of food, cities, and the culture overall. Click here for the full blog and test your Italian!
A Door To Italy Blog
While I was there, I also served as a public relations intern at the school I attended, A Door to Italy. As part of the role, I created a bilingual blog to show potential students what it was like to be enrolled at the school. It documented the experiences of my classmates and incorporated their personally taken photos as well. Click here for the full blog and read in Italian or English!
